About SHPE
BACKGROUND
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded as a non-profit organization in 1974 in Los Angeles, CA by a small group of Hispanic engineers. They saw the need for the existence of an organization that would assist and encourage Hispanics to pursue an education in science and engineering. Today, there are over 135 student chapters and 37 professional chapters across the country. SHPE-SB was formed in 1993 to carry on this mission in the Santa Barbara area.
VISION
Our vision is to establish SHPE-SB as the premier technical organization whose primary purpose is to achieve Hispanic excellence in engineering, math, and science.
MISSION
Our mission is to promote the advancement and representation of Latinos in the fields of engineering, math, and science within Santa Barbara county.
